The Long Haul – Survival Tactics For The Biz

The Long Haul

Survival Tactics For The Biz

Before You Read Anything Else

Young professional actors all, you are amongst friends! I couldn’t be happier that you’re here reading these words.

Welcome to TheLongHaul.com.au ; Australia’s #1 online career-longevity resource for all aspiring, young professional actors. This resource is and will remain available in digital perpetuity for every Australian actor. It is free of charge, industry-specific to Australia, updated and adjusted with industry trends and is accessible on any device.

This project was humbly cobbled together by a diverse range of professionals that represent a broad cross-section of actor-training, cultural and ethnic differences and industry experience. Therefore, there is a certain amount of subjectivity in the opinions provided. I’ve also kept things relatively conversational in style. This was never meant to be some kind of ‘academic-article-turned-website’, though it is ‘peer-reviewed’ in a sense. I will not be offended in the slightest if you turn up your nose at anything that I’ve written here. The most important thing you can do is to take the meat and leave the bones. But even then, that will indeed be a different ratio for everyone.

As you read this, you will also begin to notice that I tend to use the pronouns ‘us’ and ‘we’ rather than ‘I’ – though not exclusively. This resource has been created entirely from scratch by the individual known as Long Haul Guy (yours truly) but the content within it and the ownership of said content jointly belongs all those who cared enough to contribute to it. These people, like myself, champion the idea that we (your work colleagues) owe you (the reader) a duty of care as you join the ranks of our wider artistic family. We want to see you succeed and love your job as much as we would wish this for ourselves.

All I’ve done here was to collate a tonne of experience, assume the role of a conduit and proceed to tell these stories from my tribe in the way that I thought was best.

With that, I wish you all the very best for your own long hauls.

Peace,

L.H.G
